What the FDA labels say
From the Propylthiouracil label · effective 2026-08-25
Beta-adrenergic blocking agents: Hyperthyroidism may cause an increased clearance of beta blockers with a high extraction ratio.
A reduced dose of beta-adrenergic blockers may be needed when a hyperthyroid patient becomes euthyroid.
From the Acebutolol (Acebutolol Hydrochloride) label · effective 2025-11-07
Abrupt withdrawal of β-blockade may precipitate a thyroid storm; therefore, patients suspected of developing thyrotoxicosis from whom acebutolol therapy is to be withdrawn should be monitored closely.
