Albuterol and Umeclidinium and vilanterol interaction
Albuterol and Umeclidinium and vilanterol: both prescribing labels flag this combination with the strongest language, such as a contraindication, a boxed warning, or an instruction to avoid it.
Do not combine without a prescriber's guidance. The label language below is the strongest FDA uses.
What the FDA labels say
From the Albuterol (Albuterol Sulate HFA) label · effective 2026-01-30
Other short-acting sympathomimetic aerosol bronchodilators should not be used concomitantly with albuterol.
Therefore, Albuterol Sulfate HFA, like all other sympathomimetic amines, should be used with caution in patients with underlying cardiovascular disorders, especially coronary insufficiency, cardiac arrhythmias, and hypertension.
Coexisting Conditions Albuterol Sulfate HFA, like other sympathomimetic amines, should be used with caution in patients with convulsive disorders, hyperthyroidism, or diabetes mellitus and in patients who are unusually responsive to sympathomimetic amines.
Use of Anti-inflammatory Agents The use of beta-adrenergic agonist bronchodilators alone may not be adequate to control asthma in many patients.
Cardiovascular Effects Albuterol Sulfate HFA, like all other beta 2 -adrenergic agonists, can produce clinically significant cardiovascular effects in some patients such as changes in pulse rate or blood pressure.
From the Umeclidinium and vilanterol (Umeclidinium and Vilanterol Ellipta) label · effective 2024-11-22
Avoid Excessive Use of Umeclidinium and Vilanterol ELLIPTA and Avoid Use with Other Long-Acting Beta 2 -Agonists Umeclidinium and Vilanterol ELLIPTA should not be used more often than recommended, at higher doses than recommended, or in conjunction with other therapies containing LABAs, as an overdose may result.
Doses of the related beta 2 -adrenoceptor agonist albuterol, when administered intravenously, have been reported to aggravate preexisting diabetes mellitus and ketoacidosis.
Cardiovascular Effects Vilanterol, like other beta 2 -agonists, can produce a clinically significant cardiovascular effect in some patients as measured by increases in pulse rate, systolic or diastolic blood pressure, and also cardiac arrhythmias, such as supraventricular tachycardia and extrasystoles.
Umeclidinium and Vilanterol ELLIPTA, like other sympathomimetic amines, should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular disorders, especially coronary insufficiency, cardiac arrhythmias, and hypertension.
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors, Tricyclic Antidepressants, and QTc Prolonging Drugs Vilanterol, like other beta 2 -agonists, should be administered with extreme caution to patients being treated with monoamine oxidase inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, or drugs known to prolong the QTc interval or within 2 weeks of discontinuation of such agents, because the…
