Amlodipine and olmesartan and Sumatriptan and naproxen interaction
Amlodipine and olmesartan and Sumatriptan and naproxen: both prescribing labels describe an interaction that usually calls for monitoring, a dose change, or spacing the doses.
Usually manageable with monitoring or a dose change. Tell your pharmacist you take both.
What the FDA labels say
From the Sumatriptan and naproxen (Sumatriptan and Naproxen Sodium) label · effective 2025-10-30
Patients at greatest risk of this reaction are those with impaired renal function, dehydration, hypovolemia, heart failure, liver dysfunction, salt depletion, those taking diuretics and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors or ARBs, and the elderly.
ACE Inhibitors and ARBs: Concomitant use with sumatriptan and naproxen sodium tablets in elderly, volume depleted, or those with renal impairment may result in deterioration of renal function.
Monitor patients to assure diuretic efficacy including antihypertensive effects.
In patients who are elderly, volume-depleted (including those on diuretic therapy), or have renal impairment, coadministration of an NSAID with ACE inhibitors or ARBs may result in deterioration of renal function, including possible acute renal failure.
Intervention: During concomitant use of sumatriptan and naproxen sodium tablets and ACE-inhibitors, ARBs, or beta-blockers, monitor blood pressure to ensure that the desired blood pressure is obtained [see Warnings and Precautions (5.8)] .
From the Amlodipine and olmesartan (AMLODIPINE and OLMESARTAN medoxomil) label · effective 2026-01-03
• Increased exposure of amlodipine when coadministered with CYP3A inhibitors Olmesartan medoxomil ( 7.2 ): • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) may lead to increased risk of renal impairment and loss of antihypertensive effect.
Drug Interactions with Olmesartan Medoxomil Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Agents including Selective Cyclooxygenase-2 Inhibitors (COX-2 Inhibitors) In patients who are elderly, volume-depleted (including those on diuretic therapy), or with compromised renal function, co-administration of NSAID S , including selective COX-2 inhibitors, with angiotensin II receptor…
Monitor renal function periodically in patients receiving olmesartan medoxomil and NSAID therapy.
The antihypertensive effect of angiotensin II receptor antagonists, including olmesartan medoxomil may be attenuated by NSAID S including selective COX-2 inhibitors.
