Gentamicin and Plazomicin interaction
Gentamicin and Plazomicin: both prescribing labels flag this combination with the strongest language, such as a contraindication, a boxed warning, or an instruction to avoid it.
Do not combine without a prescriber's guidance. The label language below is the strongest FDA uses.
What the FDA labels say
From the Gentamicin (Gentamicin Sulfate in Sodium Chloride) label · effective 2023-01-26
As with other aminoglycosides, gentamicin sulfate is potentially nephrotoxic.
As with the other aminoglycosides, on rare occasions changes in renal and eighth cranial nerve function may not become manifest until soon after completion of therapy.
A history of hypersensitivity or serious toxic reactions to other aminoglycosides may contraindicate use of gentamicin because of known cross-sensitivity of patients to drugs in this class.
Serious side effects to mother, fetus or newborn have not been reported in the treatment of pregnant women with other aminoglycosides.
From the Plazomicin (Zemdri (plazomicin)) label · effective 2024-12-20
Before therapy with ZEMDRI is instituted, careful inquiry about previous hypersensitivity reactions to other aminoglycosides should be made.
A history of hypersensitivity to other aminoglycosides is a contraindication to the use of ZEMDRI, because cross-sensitivity among aminoglycoside antibacterial drugs has been established.
