Levetiracetam and Tiagabine interaction
Levetiracetam and Tiagabine: both prescribing labels mention this combination without an instruction to avoid it or change the dose.
Mentioned, no instruction to avoid. Worth knowing; rarely a reason to change anything on its own.
What the FDA labels say
From the Levetiracetam label · effective 2024-03-15
Other Antiepileptic Drugs Potential drug interactions between levetiracetam and other AEDs (carbamazepine, gabapentin, lamotrigine, phenobarbital, phenytoin, primidone and valproate) were also assessed by evaluating the serum concentrations of levetiracetam and these AEDs during placebo-controlled clinical studies.
These data indicate that levetiracetam does not influence the plasma concentration of other AEDs and that these AEDs do not influence the pharmacokinetics of levetiracetam.
From the Tiagabine (Tiagabine Hydrochloride) label · effective 2021-09-30
Effects of other Antiepilepsy Drugs (AEDs) on Tiagabine HCl: Carbamazepine : Population pharmacokinetic analyses indicate that tiagabine clearance is 60% greater in patients taking carbamazepine with or without other enzyme-inducing AEDs.
Phenytoin : Population pharmacokinetic analyses indicate that tiagabine clearance is 60% greater in patients taking phenytoin with or without other enzyme-inducing AEDs.
Phenobarbital (Primidone) : Population pharmacokinetic analyses indicate that tiagabine clearance is 60% greater in patients taking phenobarbital (primidone) with or without other enzyme-inducing AEDs.
Effects of Tiagabine HCl on other Antiepilepsy Drugs (AEDs): Phenytoin : Tiagabine had no effect on the steady-state plasma concentrations of phenytoin in patients with epilepsy.
