Mecamylamine and Minoxidil interaction
Mecamylamine and Minoxidil: both prescribing labels flag this combination with the strongest language, such as a contraindication, a boxed warning, or an instruction to avoid it.
Do not combine without a prescriber's guidance. The label language below is the strongest FDA uses.
What the FDA labels say
From the Minoxidil label · effective 2026-08-25
Minoxidil should be reserved for hypertensive patients who do not respond adequately to maximum therapeutic doses of a diuretic and two other antihypertensive agents.
From the Mecamylamine (Vecamyl) label · effective 2025-02-20
The action of Mecamylamine HCl may be potentiated by anesthesia, other antihypertensive drugs and alcohol.
When ganglion blockers or other potent antihypertensive drugs are discontinued suddenly, hypertensive levels return.
When Mecamylamine HCl is withdrawn, this should be done gradually and other antihypertensive therapy usually must be substituted.
