Nevirapine and Rilpivirine interaction
Nevirapine and Rilpivirine: both prescribing labels flag this combination with the strongest language, such as a contraindication, a boxed warning, or an instruction to avoid it.
Do not combine without a prescriber's guidance. The label language below is the strongest FDA uses.
What the FDA labels say
From the Nevirapine label · effective 2026-07-15
Female gender and higher CD4 + cell counts at initiation of therapy place patients at increased risk; women with CD4 + cell counts greater than 250 cells/mm 3 , including pregnant women receiving nevirapine in combination with other antiretrovirals for the treatment of HIV-1 infection, are at the greatest risk.
Etravirine Rilpivirine Plasma concentrations may be altered.
From the Rilpivirine (EDURANT) label · effective 2025-08-28
Coadministration of EDURANT or EDURANT PED and drugs that induce CYP3A may result in decreased plasma concentrations of rilpivirine and loss of virologic response and possible resistance to rilpivirine or to the class of NNRTIs.
Other NNRTIs (efavirenz, etravirine, nevirapine) ↓ rilpivirine ↔ other NNRTIs HIV-Antiviral Agents: Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors (NRTIs) didanosine ↔ rilpivirine ↔ didanosine No dose adjustment is required when EDURANT or EDURANT PED is coadministered with didanosine.
