Hypercalcemia in Patients with Metastatic Breast Cancer As with other additive hormonal therapy (estrogens and androgens), hypercalcemia has been reported in some breast cancer patients with bone metastases within a few weeks of starting treatment with tamoxifen.
The underlying mechanism is unknown, but may be related to the estrogen-like effect of tamoxifen.
Variations in the karyopyknotic index on vaginal smears and various degrees of estrogen effect on Pap smears have been seen in postmenopausal patients taking tamoxifen.
