Contraceptive effectiveness may be reduced when hormonal contraceptives are co-administered with antibiotics, anticonvulsants, and other drugs that increase the metabolism of contraceptive steroids.
Examples include rifampin, barbiturates, phenylbutazone, phenytoin, carbamazepine, felbamate, oxcarbazepine, topiramate, and griseofulvin. b.

Oral Contraceptive: TRILEPTAL may decrease the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives ( 7.3 )
Hormonal Contraceptives Concurrent use of TRILEPTAL with hormonal contraceptives may render these contraceptives less effective [see Use in Specific Populations (8.3) and Clinical Pharmacology (12.3)] .
Studies with other oral or implant contraceptives have not been conducted.
