Rocuronium and Succinylcholine interaction
Rocuronium and Succinylcholine: both prescribing labels flag this combination with the strongest language, such as a contraindication, a boxed warning, or an instruction to avoid it.
Do not combine without a prescriber's guidance. The label language below is the strongest FDA uses.
What the FDA labels say
From the Rocuronium label · effective 2026-08-02
Rocuronium Bromide Injection is contraindicated in patients known to have hypersensitivity (e.g., anaphylaxis) to rocuronium bromide or other neuromuscular blocking agents [see Warnings and Precautions ( 5.2 )] .
Hypersensitivity (e.g., anaphylaxis) to rocuronium bromide or other neuromuscular blocking agents.
The median duration of action of Rocuronium Bromide Injection 0.6 mg/kg administered after a 1 mg/kg dose of succinylcholine when T 1 returned to 75% of control was 36 minutes (range: 14-57, n=12) vs. 28 minutes (range: 17-51, n=12) without succinylcholine.
Precautions should also be taken in those patients who have had previous anaphylactic reactions to other neuromuscular blocking agents, since cross-reactivity between neuromuscular blocking agents, both depolarizing and nondepolarizing, has been reported.
Additional doses of Rocuronium Bromide Injection or any other neuromuscular blocking agent should not be given until there is a definite response (one twitch of the train-of-four) to nerve stimulation.
From the Succinylcholine (QUELICIN) label · effective 2026-08-18
If other neuromuscular blocking agents are to be used during the same procedure, consider the possibility of a synergistic or antagonistic effect.
Therefore, assess patients for previous anaphylactic reactions to other neuromuscular blocking agents before administering QUELICIN.
