Sodium bicarbonate injection is contraindicated in patients who are losing chloride by vomiting or from continuous gastrointestinal suction and in patients receiving diuretics known to produce a hypochloremic alkalosis.
From the Triamterene (Dyrenium) label · effective 2024-12-05
For tachyarrhythmia, infuse 44 mEq of sodium bicarbonate or 10 mL of 10% calcium gluconate or calcium chloride over several minutes.
The effect of calcium and sodium bicarbonate is transient and repeated administration may be required.
