What the FDA labels say
From the Valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide (Diovan HCT) label · effective 2026-02-13
Ion Exchange Resins: Staggering the dosage of hydrochlorothiazide and ion exchange resins (e.g., cholestyramine, colestipol) such that hydrochlorothiazide is administered at least 4 hours before or 4 to 6 hours after the administration of resins would potentially minimize the interaction [see Clinical Pharmacology (12.3)] .
Cholestyramine and colestipol : Reduced absorption of thiazides.
From the Colestipol (Colestipol Hydrochloride) label · effective 2025-05-13
The absorption of tetracycline, furosemide, penicillin G, hydrochlorothiazide, and gemfibrozil was significantly decreased when given simultaneously with colestipol hydrochloride; these drugs were not tested to determine the effect of administration one hour before colestipol hydrochloride.
