Deflazacort and Imatinib interaction

Deflazacort and Imatinib: both prescribing labels describe an interaction that usually calls for monitoring, a dose change, or spacing the doses.

From the Imatinib (Gleevec) label · effective 2026-07-13

Moderate

If either is abnormal, consider prophylactic use of systemic steroids (1-2 mg/kg) for one to two weeks concomitantly with Gleevec at the initiation of therapy.

In these instances, Gleevec was resumed at a dose lower than that at which the reaction occurred and some patients also received concomitant treatment with corticosteroids or antihistamines.

The condition was reported to be reversible with the administration of systemic steroids, circulatory support measures and temporarily withholding Gleevec.

Therefore, give one third the recommended dosage of EMFLAZA when moderate or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., clarithromycin, fluconazole, diltiazem, verapamil, grapefruit juice) are used concomitantly with EMFLAZA [see Dosage and Administration ( 2.5 ) and Clinical Pharmacology ( 12.3 )] .
