Metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol-XL, Kapspargo) ist ein Betablocker, der den Herzschlag verlangsamt und den Blutdruck senkt. Es ist für Bluthochdruck, Angina pectoris und, je nach Form, Herzinfarkt oder Herzinsuffizienz zugelassen. Es gibt es als Tablette mit sofortiger Freisetzung (Metoprololtartrat), die in der Regel ein- oder zweimal täglich eingenommen wird, und als Retardtablette oder Retardkapsel (Metoprololsuccinat), die einmal täglich eingenommen wird.
