These medicines reduce potassium excretion; adding potassium supplements or salt substitutes can cause hyperkalemia, which affects heart rhythm.

Moderate

Risk factors for the development of hyperkalemia include renal insufficiency, diabetes, combination use with ARBs or ACEIs [see Contraindications (4) , Warnings and Precautions (5.2) , and Clinical Studies (14.3) ] , NSAIDs, or potassium supplements or potassium sparing diuretics.
